Track your daily expenses in under a minute
27 October 2026
Most people who start tracking spending stop within a month. The reason is rarely discipline. It is friction. The fix is to make logging so quick that skipping it feels harder than doing it.
1. Log it when it happens
Memory is a poor ledger. Add the expense while the bill is still in your hand: type it, say “Tea 40”, or scan the receipt. In Coinquill the amount, date and category are filled in for you, and you only check them.
2. Keep categories few
Ten or twelve broad categories are enough: food, groceries, transport, rent, bills, health and a few more. Too many choices slow you down, and the totals become harder to read.
3. Review once a week
Spend two minutes on the same day each week looking at the month so far. The category bars show where the money is going, and the daily bars show whether one expensive day is driving the total.
